Welcome to redundancy support

Hi there! I suppose this is the 'hello world' blog post for this little site. I have absolutely no idea whether it's going to be useful or not or if I am going to help anyone. Time will tell, but I have a hunch that redundancy in the UK is going to become more prominent over the next few years. I hope I am wrong...

My Background

I'm Nesh, by the way. Earlier this year I was made redundant, I was a developer for a company whom I had been with for several years. I had never gone through redundancy before and I wasn't expecting it. I remember that I was invited to an initial meeting where I was notified that my job was in danger of redundancy and that I would have to go through a consultation process. As I recall, that first meeting left me in a state of shock.

I navigated the process of consultation as best as I could but felt quite alone throughout. I was a member of a union so did have access to support but, even so, the process of attending the meetings and everything was quite daunting. Anyway, eventually I was made redundant.

Next steps

Afterwards, other than worrying about all the things you would imagine such as paying my mortgage, eating etc. I started to think about what other people were going through. I knew that I was lucky in that I had joined a union some years ago so could ask for advice while going through my redundancy but I knew that many people wouldn't have and they would be going through this alone.

Redundancy support

So my idea was to offer a place of support for people going through redundancy consultation or who have just been made redundant. For those people who do feel alone, then perhaps I can help those who need someone to talk to and offer my support.

I don't offer legal support - you need a lawyer or someone trained specifically for that.

What I aim to do is offer one-to-one video calls where you can speak to a person who has gone through something similar.

How much is this going to cost?

I don't intend to charge anything. For those I help, I will offer my time and support for free - for as long as I'm needed. Why? Because redundancy for a lot of people is going to be a time of financial stress.

I will at some point add links for donations so that people who have the means may contribute to the running of this site.

Maybe, if this becomes successful I will create some literature or guides that I might charge for, but I'm gettin ahead of myself. Let's see if I can help anyone first...
